My New Life in Admiralty (August 2007)
Following the example of "My New Life in Kwai Chung" (yes, I am giving this site's most linked-to page one more push), I should probably talk about my new life in Admiralty. I have by now more or less settled down in my new job at British Council Hong Kong. The vicinity of my new office is undoubtedly much better than the previous one.
Whenever I look out of my window - whereas I had none previously - I can see people swimming in the pool of one of Hong Kong's most expensive hotels. It takes me less than half an hour to commute from home to office, as compared to over one hour in Kwai Chung, and I can enjoy the nice food in Wanchai with my many friends who happen to be around in that area, or the even nicer but affordable-only-occasionally cuisine in Admiralty.
But work is much busier than before. Since I started working here, I have been focusing on the UK Film Festival to be held this October. Actually I still cannot describe my scope of work in full, and my job title "Arts and Creative Industries Officer" doesn't quite tell either.
I have been working from 10 a.m. to 8-ish or 9 p.m. on weekdays, and then fully utilizing the exceptionally good weather recently to have fun during weekends. As such, I didn't have time to update my website until now when typhoon hits Hong Kong. It's also on this typhoon day that I suddenly feel like fetching all the business cards that I have used and take a picture of them. The one for my new job is of course included.
Despite all the busy work, I could, fortunately, enjoy sunshine during Saturdays and Sundays - 5-day week at last! Here are some pictures I took during an excursion to Lamma Island, another weekend activity after those I mentioned last month.
By the way, I have put the excerpts of my essays published in Hong Kong Cinema Retrospective 2006 here on my website, one on Hong Kong ghost films and the other on the representation of Hong Kong as a generic city in several films. To help those who wishes to keep track with updates of new stuff here, though I doubt if there is any, the technologically backward me have finally added RSS feed to the site. I hope it works, but if it doesn't, please let me know.
